This be my 100th post y'all

I noticed that i was at 99 posts awhile ago, so figured i would wait until i had something spectacular to report - and here it is!

I am moving on from my position at the drugstore. Nine and a half years ago i ran into my current boss at that glacier viewing spot out on 3 lakes loop road. I had a few beers in me, and was quite chatty with her considering i was meeting her for the first time. I remember expressing my displeasure with my current job at norquest, and she suggested i come work for them at Petersburg Rexall Drug, Inc. I excitedly told norquest i was finished there, and began my new career as a retail clerk. Over time i gained more responsibilities, and when the office manager left to work at the hospital, i was given her position. After nearly a decade of working there, i realized i wanted to try something else. Months ago i fantasized about opening a small clothes boutique, but reality hit soon after and i knew it wasnt a possibility at that time. Then, like it was meant to be, on january 4th i learned that Pangea Clothing & Gifts was up for sale. I couldnt believe it. I called the owner margaret the following sunday, and waited anxiously for a return call. When i hadnt received one by the middle of the week, i stopped in the store - i figured she already had a buyer lined up. I found out that she would not be back to town until friday. Whew, i wasnt being ignored. Thursday night she calls me and we spend a half hour talking about it and getting super excited. So YESSSSSSS! I am trying to buy Pangea! I told my bosses on friday and they were extremely supportive and happy for me. I tried a little experiment with the rumor mill too - we left for anchorage on friday and returned sunday, so i didnt get the results until monday. But by then two older ladies brought it up to me around town, and then it was a domino effect. I figure i have about 150 more people who will ask me about it before it is no longer big news. My sister, who is back in the fashion industry, is attending a huge clothing show in february over valentines day (which just happens to be in vegas, oh darn.) I will be joining her to get a feeling for whats out there and whats to come. (Zieak will be back in DC for work anyway.) Margaret would like to be out of here by the end of april, so hopefully everything will be said and done by then. Wish me luck!

In other news, our friend Seth has also left norquest after numerous years to purchase his own business. He is now the proud half-owner of Tonka Seafoods, one of the best places in town to get alaska smoked salmon. In doing so though, he is losing his company-owned house and is having to look for other accommodations. He has found a house to buy, but it will not be available to move into until March. Zieak and i have had plans to turn a quarter of our house into an apartment/bed&breakfast for awhile, and this was just the kick in the butt we needed to really get going on it. So far zieak has installed french doors and just now he finished putting in a pine door to separate our living area from the apartment. We still need to put up a wall to completely separate our space from his kitchen area. Seth has assured us that we need not rush on his part, that he is merely using us for storage space and a place to sleep, but we really did need the motivation to get it in place. Zieak has already setup a website should we choose to start a bed&breakfast (although we are thinking "bed&brew" instead, offering a local homebrew to our guests - oh heck we'll probably provide food too.) We chose Paths End B&B, since we are located just past the end of the new paved bike path. I'm not sure what the deciding factor will be, whether we choose to rent it out full time or bring in not-so-steady income with a b&b....

So theres my big news! Exciting, scary, tedious... But everything feels right, and so good.

twosday, so heres two

the new iphone was announced today. the front is a full touch-screen. it claims to have a proximity sensor that will turn off the sensitivity while it is up to your ear. ummm, but what about when you need to touch it with your finger? some people have thick fingers that could be considered the same size as someones small ear...

and, i just now realized this, so please dont make fun, but i have to ask - 'fridge' is short for 'refrigerator.' who decided it needed a 'd?'

how often are the bedspreads washed

I never really thought i would have the urge to go back to germany, after experiencing it on a back-packing tour of europe. But i may have to plan a trip in the future, just so i can stay here. But then i would have to decide which room to request, the cartoon room, the colorful room, the quote room.....

next time i will use this...

Our first friday night in new york we went (as kevins guests) to a holiday party at the offices of universal buzz. The invites said 5-8pm, and we showed up at 8 on the dot, but it was still hoppin - they had busted out the karaoke machine by that point. I sipped on white wine while zieak bravely drank a beverage that was neon blue. The best part though? The hors' devours of course! Twinkies, ho-hos, candy and BACON.
