Ocupado

Well, damn.

Nobody complains when i don't update my blog, so i don't feel any rush. But here is a little of what i've been up to:

Things have been wicked busy here for awhile. Fourth of July is creeping up, and there seems to be a never-ending list of things that have to be done for it. One of our committee members quit, but we also picked up a new, enthusiastic volunteer, so things have gone smoothly for the most part. Tonight there is a Captain Morgan's promotion thingie at the HB, so we have chosen that as our meeting spot. The committee this year consists of me, Zieak, Celeste Fenter, Tiffany Glass, and Robin Jenkinson. It seems like we have added quite a few new events this year, but no more help than we usually have, so already i'm feeling spread kind of thin. Things should go according to plan though, this is going to be the best 4th of July EVER!

On the home front we still have a pile of soil in the front yard just waiting to be spread and planted with grass seed. The front flower box has been installed and all of the shrubs have settled into their new home quite nicely. The cats have also found a new litter box. They are still defending us from the neighbor bully cat. The other day Ollie had a sizeable bloody wound on his poor little ear, but it didn't really seem to bother him. A friend suggested capturing the little terror from next door and paying to have him de-clawed. This cat has already cost zieak alot of money, so i don't think that's an option. Any suggestions?

Work has been hectic, two of the high school girls who were employed there the last year went to Europe, so we have been a little short-handed. (i feel like i'm using alot of hyphens in this post. and now i'm second guessing my use of alot w/o a space.) I may have to ask for some time off next week in preparation for the big celebration, we'll see.

We have had some playtime also, last weekend zieak's cousin dylan came in just for one day on his way to the yukon for the solstice. We spent the day garage sailing, eating beer-bits, walking the docks, and handing out raffle tickets. Just so happened that kito's was hosting a group of strippers that sat night. What a nice fathers day present to the community of psg! Ryan, dylan and i did a pub crawl beforehand hoping to make a fashionably late appearance. Turns out they started almost 2 hours late, which means we only missed about 10 minutes. It was a crazy, erotic, funny, interesting, embarrassing night. Dylan will never forget p-town, that's for sure. I guess they want to come back in August, because they (surprisingly) made more money here than in Juneau. If so, i'll have to leave my atm card at home that night.

We have almost finished watching the first 2 seasons of Family Guy. That is some of the funniest shit i have ever seen. Sometimes zieak and i look at each other, like "how could they get away with this on cable tv?" We have been watching it so frequently lately that we've been describing things by referencing it. "Did you hear that little patter of feet? (Ollie running across the linoleum?) It sounded like Stewie!"

I am DJ'ing a wedding reception this sat night, which coincides with 80's night at kitos. I was so looking forward to dusting off my legwarmers, jean skirt, and huge hoop earrings. Oh well, i'll be making money instead of spending it.

That's about it. The neighbors have been relatively quiet, i'll be SO happy when the 4th has come and gone, and my shoes need a polishing. Rock on.

Universal

Everyone knows when you pass a pedestrian who is holding their thumb out that they are wanting a ride in the direction they're walking. I'd like to come up with a universal sign that the driver can use when they would like to pick up the traveler but can't. Maybe their vehicle is too full, or their destination is not too much further from that point. I feel bad just mouthing "sorry!"

gauzy

to lie, to think, to want, it hurts
big fat tears like zeroes - grading my life
drying my skin into cracks in the desert floor
small sneaky ones too that slide down and tickle the nose
i had attention i had attention
mercury, rolling dropping never staying
will i ever make it to the junction
of who i am and what i want
the splendidness of time and joy
seemed never-ending, maybe to fade
but never disappear

The saga continues...

We have been crazy busy lately, resulting in some early nights to bed. Last night we had good intentions of getting a full night's rest, retiring not long after 10. But come 10:30, we were rudely awakened by the neighbor's screaming, AGAIN. It only lasted a few minutes before there was the sound of breaking glass. Then more screaming, accusing the male of the household of selling prescription pills. Jesus. It's bad enough that the one guy in town who has admitted to an involvement in the murder hangs around there, now this. Then the yelling female mentioned the police. Not long after we started smelling the fumes of plastic burning. Destroying evidence? Smoking clown heads? Who knows. Zieak called the police and relayed the situation. Then a young couple started walking on the highway toward town with two baby strollers. They stopped in front of my house and the guy started walking towards the front door. I felt a sudden rush of adrenaline and threw on my robe as i dashed down the stairs. I didn't know what was going to happen, but i thought it couldn't be too bad, he had two kids outside. He asked to use the phone to call a cab, saying "the situation's got bad again." They waited on the road for the cab, but when two police cruisers came rolling up they strolled their children back to the trailer. The conversations that followed were quiet enough that we couldn't hear what happened. All i know is i will be looking into landlord/tenant laws, and speaking to the landlord of that property. This is insane.

glad/sad

I am glad that i am not being made to attend bible camp all summer.
I am sad that there were four dead mangled porcupines on the road the other day.
I am glad that all eight of my fingers and my two thumbs work, pain-free.
I am sad that every time i read the news, there are more killings, more dying, more hate. And that's not ever going to change.
I am glad that i feel love from everyone i care about.
I am sad that i am not a better prankster.
I am glad that i did not get screwed by the internet.

I am glad that i can end this list with more glads than sads.
